The Fredrickson Clover Creek Community Council is hosting a free outdoor family movie night of the original movie of “The Wizard of Oz” on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Sound Life Church located at 3425 176th Street East Tacoma, WA 98446. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the movie will begin at dusk. The movie will be held outside in the grass. Additionally, there will be fun, activities, games, community booths, food, and refreshments.
Kate Lowry, owner of Ricky J’s Restaurant and Lounge and chair for the Fredrickson Events Committee, explained the purpose of the event: “To bring a sense of community and bring all Fredrickson families together and keeping business and connections local.”
Kate explained the history of the event, “I am not on the Frederickson Community Council but have worked closely with many of the folks that are. They started in 1978 and are made up of volunteers. Their mission is to keep Frederickson residents informed and aware of what is happening in the area. They support the community and nurture our area!
Movie nights started three years ago! This is the first year I am running the events committee, but the second year I have been on it! We started in the Safeway parking lot, two years ago it was at the Pierce County Skills Center, and now we are at Sound Life Church.”
Kate commented: “I love these events! This year we have stepped it up to really give an all around good experience to families that come! We have bounce houses, face painting, pony rides, business booths, food spaces, a playground, and more! It is fun to see the same families coming out to all of our events and getting to know other families in the neighborhood! We invite local business to set up booth space at minimal cost to get their local business in front of the community!”
When asked about the best thing about the outdoor movie night, Kate replied, “I think the best thing about the event is the people that put it on! There are so many in our planning committee group that just go above and beyond what you could ever imagine of an unpaid position! It’s watching all the happy family and kids that come out to our events that makes it all worthwhile!”
Kate stated: “I recommend this event for anyone living in the area! Come on down and get to know your neighbors! There is something fun for everyone! I think what makes ours more interesting is location and fun! We of course wanted to have more fun activities to do here in Frederickson and outdoor movie nights seemed like the perfect way!”
