On Sunday, March 24, at noon, Titlow Park in Tacoma will have their third annual 2-mile run/walk. Titlow Park is located at 8425 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98465. The walk/run is $15 per person for all ages and there are no discounts. Janet Bissell, Metro Parks Race Director, explained that the fun run/walk is used to support the Metro Parks Recreation scholarship fun to fund things such as: swim lessons, sports activities, dance, art classes which are open to the public. Janet stated: “All our runs support recreation in the Tacoma Metro Parks facility.”
According to Janet, serious runners can knock out the 2-mile run in 12 minutes and there are obstacles that slow you down, like a mini warrior dash in which participants can get muddy and crawl over things, etc. Janet commented: “This is one of our biggest family runs. There are no strollers allowed on the course since you will be crawling under things and no dogs allowed.” Janet informed us that participants that do not want to get muddy can take precautions so that they won’t, as they can make it a challenge to not get muddy.
Janet recommends all ages to participate in the event: “All ages as anybody that likes to get out and be part of the community. We play music, offer hot chocolate, tea, and coffee at the end an awards ceremony. It is a lot of fun for people that get out in the community as it gets them off the couch and gets them out and moving around.”
Janet mentioned the best thing about the event: “It’s unique as all of the runs are in Metro Parks; this one we really try to make muddy with obstacles to challenge your fitness a little bit.”
For more information or to register, please visit: www.MetroParksTacoma.org/races. The deadline to register is Thursday March 21, at midnight. “I would like to see people come out and be part of the community and experience the awakening of spring, and get out and get a little muddy and back to Mother Nature and have some fun,” Janet concluded.
