Saturday, August 11 from 12 pm to 4 pm will be a full luau meal, show, and cultural experience. The full luau meal will consist of: island style roast pig, salmon, teriyaki chicken, and more. There will be a Te fare o Tamatoa (Tahitian show) and a fire and knife show. The cultural experience will include: lei/ula making on site, ukulele demo and lessons, taste of the Island drums, the opportunity to learn basic hula and weaving with coconut leaves, island fruit cake tasting, Hawaiian shaved ice, storytelling, artifacts, and cultural pieces from different Polynesian islands. The places that will be represented at the luau will be: Hawaii, Tonga, Fiji, Tahiti, and Samoa. The event will take place at 4851 South Tacoma Way Tacoma, WA 98409. Tickets are $30 per person, $50 per couple, $12 for children age 11 and younger, and $5 off with membership.

Lua Pritchard, executive director at the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, commented: “This will be a fantastic event because we are adding a lot of cultural experiences from the islands like never before. With a typical luau, you get food and show this one we are adding cultural experiences to showcase what we do here at the cultural center for the South Pacific Islands. If I were the public, I’d come this year since it’s like never before. The public is getting a lot more than what they are paying for.” Lua discussed what many people may not know about the event, “We’re roasting pig onsite and people get to see when it comes out like never before.”

Lua mentioned how this luau was unique compared to others, “This is our first year at our new home and we’re having a luau, which is one of our big celebrations. We’re really gonna make it very nice and special for our families, friends, and supporters that are coming.”

When asked who she recommended attend the event, Lua replied, “Everyone; because they’re gonna have an experience of their lifetime.”

For more information please call: 253 383-3900. “We really want everyone to come and hurry up and purchase your ticket and be with us. We will make sure you’ll have a good time and bring your entire family,” Lua concluded.

        1. Had a great time at the Luau this weekend. And with special guest of honor. Thanks Carly for letting me share that with you. However I wasn’t a fan of the pineapple drink ha-ha. But It was lots of fun. And the dancers were great.

          1. Wow! Bob I was just thinking how you needed to post your experience with the luau and you already beat me to it. Good job! Thanks! Yes, the luau was nice since it was outdoors and under shady trees. We definitely got our money’s worth for the food. Now I discovered a soda that I can get in the store (strawberry soda).

  1. My family and I have gone to APCC’s Luau every years since we moved to the area more than 2 years ago and have always had a lot of fun! Great people, great food, and great performances – especially the fire show!!
