Thursday, March 22, 2011 the East Pierce Fire and Rescue Volunteer Firefighters’ Association is sponsoring a bingo night for the community at Buckley Eagles Hall located at 29021 State Route 410 East Buckley, Washington 98321. Dinner will begin at 6 pm and consists of hamburgers, fries, and beverages. Bingo tickets will be available for purchase (14 games for $14) and the game will begin at 7 pm. A raffle and silent auction will also be held at the event. The East Pierce Volunteer Firefighter’s Association is selling raffle tickets for: a full size fire hydrant, a large backyard fire pit, and a four-foot tall bunny rabbit. Tickets are $2 a piece and all of the proceeds go directly to the Scholarship Fund. If interested, please contact Bill Dedge, Acting Company Officer for East Pierce Fire and Rescue via email at: email@example.com. Bill explained, “Since 2008, we have awarded over $5,000 in scholarships to three area high schools within our jurisdiction: Bonney Lake, Sumner, and White River. This year we’ve expanded our program to cover all high schools serving our students in the district: Orting, Fife, Walker, Puyallup, Auburn, Riverside, West Auburn, White River Alternative, Cascade Christian, and Todd Deamer.”
The scholarships can be used to attend any two-or four-year accredited college or university, or service-oriented technical college in the State of Washington. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and intend to enter the fields of firefighting, law enforcement, medicine or social work.
Bill shared what he thinks of the event, “I think it’s a fun and exciting night, a lot of the firefighters and chiefs come out with their spouses and mingle with citizens from our community. It’s definitely for a worthy cause and the hamburgers are really good and I love the fries…I don’t know where they get them. It’s a great opportunity to rub elbows with the chief officers and firefighters in our district.” He believes the best thing about the event, “It serves a worthwhile cause which is to help the students that have a financial need and you can go out and really get to meet members in our community.”
When asked how this fundraiser was unique compared to others, Bill replied, “It’s unique because it’s put on by firefighters that live within our community; everybody that’s putting on this event lives in the community.” Bill mentioned what many people may not know about the event, “That we live in the community and have children that go to the same schools that we’re giving scholarships. We volunteer our time to fire service and to our community to better our community. Our headquarter station is located at: 18421 old Buckley Hwy Suite F. Bonney Lake, Washington 98391. Volunteer firefighters volunteer their time within their district.”
Bill also recommends his family and friends to attend, “It’s for having a family night out. It’s a great place to go. A nice evening out for the family friends.” For more information about the event, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org. “Please come out and enjoy us for a fun evening of bingo and help your community at the same time,” Bill concluded.
