Five Guys

Five Guys located at 1002 North Meridian Puyallup, Washington 98371 opened on November 12, 2011. The restaurant serves various types of hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, toppings, and fries. Cameron Gentry, owner of Five Guys’ Puyallup location, commented about the grand opening, “We opened smooth and went well. There were times when ticket times climbed higher than we wanted due to the demand of the day.”

According to the Five Guys’ website, Five Guys has been a Washington, DC area favorite since 1986 when Jerry and Janie Murrell informed their four young Murrell brothers: “Start a business or go to college.” The business route won and the Murrell family opened a carry-out burger joint in Alexandria, Virginia.

During the 1980’s and 1990’s the Murrell family perfected their simple system. Five Guys was the place to get a fresh, juicy burger with as many toppings you could stuff between fresh-baked buns. A fifth brother was born and, as their family grew, so did their business. Four more restaurants with sit-down seating were added to accommodate the growing clientele.

By early 2003, Jerry and Janie, together with the “five guys” began offering franchise opportunities. In just under 18 months, Five Guys Enterprises sold options for over 300 units. The overwhelming success of franchising a local restaurant made national news with articles in trade publications such as: Franchise Times, Nation’s Restaurant News, and the Restaurant Business Magazine.

Now, over 20 years after Five Guys first opened, there are over 900 locations nationwide and over 1500 units in development. “I am a huge fan of Five Guys. Before I started working at Five Guys, I would regularly eat there in Virginia,” Cameron commented. He shared the best thing about the restaurant, “The quality and enjoyment of the food. Second is the atmosphere. It’s a fun place to be for anyone.”

Cameron’s favorite item on the menu is the bacon cheeseburger, “All the way with some A-1 steak sauce,” Cameron added. Cameron discussed how Five Guys is unique compared to other fast food restaurants, “No Freezers are in the store. We use the best products and do not take any shortcuts to make your food.”

When asked if he had any upcoming events that he wanted to discuss for the article, Cameron replied, “Every day is an event. We open at 11 am and close at 10 pm.” Cameron recommends anybody to visit Five Guys, “If you want the freshest and best quality of burger, then we have it. There are no freezers in the store. Everything is hand prepped from the potatoes to the burgers; which are are all hand formed and cut.” Cameron also recommends his family and friends to the restaurant, “Yes, this is a super clean and upbeat place for anyone. We take pride in making sure everyone has the best Five Guys experience.”

Five Guys also has a menu online. “Go to to see what others have to say.  Call in your order or even place your order online,” Cameron commented. Cameron also explained that customers even download an app to order from their computer or Smartphone. Just show up and it’s ready. “We do not participate in any marketing; it’s all word of mouth. We make sure each customer will have the best Five Guys experience,” Cameron concluded.
