Saturday, January 11, is the Kickoff Celebration to get the public excited and ready to build this year’s Relay which will be held in June. The kickoff is a fun way to learn about the theme of the Relay and how you can be a part of it by having a team, being on someone else’s team or being a sponsor. At the kick off, you can register your team, register as a survivor, or sign up to be a relay volunteer. Registration is $10 per person and the American Cancer Society is hoping to have sponsors for all survivors, so the fee will be taken care of for them. The event will have special guest speakers, door prizes, previous participants, survivors, and community members.
The Committee members will be hosting the event with special attention on the theme of the Relay which is “Tune in for a Cure” where teams will dress up as their favorite old school television shows.
Kathy Horton, Relay Team Recruitment and Development Chair, explained that at this event, they are not just looking for people who are interested in participating in the Relay. “At the event you can volunteer but we really just want you to come and have fun with us. This is the third year that Fife/Milton/Edgewood are hosting a Relay for our community.”
“This is a wonderful way to show your support to [cancer] survivors and community members that have been affected by cancer. “ This event draws support from both the greater community and local businesses. Kathy enjoys “seeing the HOPE that is coming in finding a cure and that we are a part of that process. If you stand for something then you shine a light into the community for those that are in need of a little or a lot of light into their world.”
Kickoff for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life for the Fife, Milton, and Edgewood communities. Saturday, January 11, 10 am to noon, at the Daaca Barn located at 2820 54th Ave E, Fife, WA.
