As part of the Adult Day Trip series of Pierce County Parks and Recreation, the Mt. Rainier Scenic Steam Train Adventure is for adults age 50 and older. The event takes place Saturday, October 12. The authentic steam engine train will depart from Elbe, and out to Mineral Lake, then returning.
Chad Harvell, Recreation Coordinator for Pierce County Parks and Recreation, explained the purpose of the event: “The Mt. Rainier Steam Train Adventure is for adults 50, and over to experience Mt. Rainier by train. This is a chance to listen to the locomotive’s whistle, feel the lull of the track and enjoy a distinctive journey through the scenic foothills of Mt. Rainier. At our destination in Mineral, visitors discover the world’s largest collection of steam logging locomotives and learn the history behind this collection of rail cars and equipment. You’ll also see the start of the new Western Forest Industries Museum, a grassroots effort at showcasing the rich logging heritage of the Pacific Northwest. In addition you will have a chance to see some historical information about the rich timber industry that thrived years ago.”
The Adult Day trip series of excursions has been running for about a year, and they are always looking for new locations to visit and explore. This is just one of many ways to experience the beauty of Mt. Rainier in the fall.
The departure location is the Lakewood Community Center: 9112 Lakewood Dr. SW Lakewood, WA.
The fee is $49 per person. Attendees should bring money for food a bag lunch. Registration can be made online at www.piercecountywa.org/parks or by phone or in person at the Lakewood Community Center. For more information visit: www.piercecountywa.org/parks or call at: 253-798-4141.
