Outdoor Adventure Day

Are you looking for an adventure? One that you can take your kids on, to show them the great experiences they can have in the great outdoors? Mark your calendars, Register by the deadline, bring the kids, and come to Outdoor Adventure Day!

Outdoor Adventure Day is part of the Companionship Program at Pierce County Parks and recreation. Jenn Sergent, Companionship Program Coordinator, explained the program: “The Companionship Program is a fully inclusive recreational program for families, so we encourage children of all ages and abilities to come along, with their friends and families, especially those who want to experience the basics of camping and hiking without investing the money in supplies or trekking into the woods before knowing whether or not they’ll enjoy it. Outdoor Adventure Day is designed to encourage kiddos to get outside, explore, and learn a few basic outdoor skills in a safe and inclusive environment.”

Outdoor Adventure Day is not a drop-off program, so parents or other responsible adults should plan on being on site, and sometimes involved or participating with the children they bring to the event. There are great photo opportunities, so bring your camera, too. Supervision is provided, and there will be multiple staff member’s onsite.

Participants will be learning basic outdoor skills, such as simple plant recognition, setting up a tent, tying basic knots, and learning very basic first aid. Each adventurer will receive a lanyard upon arrival and will earn badges to attach to their lanyard as they explore and learn.

Jenn expressed how she felt about the event, “Our Outdoor Adventure Day is going to be an amazing afternoon jam-packed full of fun and what else but… ADVENTURE!”
