Portland Poet’s Tacoma Book Launch at King’s Books

On Thursday, September 26 at 7pm, King’s Books will be hosting two renowned Northwest poets for a reading and book launch. Both writers and literary community leaders, John Sibley Williams (Portland) will be launching his latest collection, Controlled Hallucinations, alongside poet, singer, and actress Emilie Rommel Shimkus (Tacoma).

John Sibley Williams is the author of Controlled Hallucinations (FutureCycle Press, 2013) and six poetry chapbooks. He is the winner of the HEART Poetry Award, and finalist for the Pushcart, Rumi, and The Pinch Poetry Prizes. John serves as editor of The Inflectionist Review and co-director of the Walt Whitman 150 project. A few previous publishing credits include: Third Coast, Inkwell, Cider Press Review, Bryant Literary Review, Cream City Review, The Chaffin Journal, The Evansville Review, RHINO, and various anthologies. Emilie Rommel Shimkus is a Tacoma-based poet, singer, and actress. Her poems have appeared in King County Metro’s Poetry on the Buses program; Pacific Lutheran University’s creative arts journal Saxifrage; and several anthologies, including Northwest Renaissance Poets at the Kent Canterbury Faire, Creative Disarray’s In Tahoma’s Shadow, and an upcoming anthology of South Sound women poets. Emilie hosts a monthly reading/open-mic series at the Auburn Station Bistro and leads workshops in poetry and theatre for children and teens. Emilie’s work can be seen on the screen (she plays a bard in two seasons of the fantasy web-comedy JourneyQuest), on several Seattle and Tacoma live theatre stages, and in front of casino and festival audiences as the lead vocalist of Igneous Rocks, a rock n’roll cover band. Emilie is a member of The Northwest Renaissance Poets, Performers & Publishers Board of Directors.
