On Saturday, November 3, Steilacoom’s High School Class of 2013 will have an Arts and Activities Auction in which the proceeds will benefit the students of Steilacoom High School Class of 2013. The theme will be “A Night in Italy.” The event will take place at the Steilacoom Community Center located at 2301 Worthington Street Steilacoom, WA 98388. Doors will be open at 5:30 pm, a buffet dinner catered by Carr’s Restaurant will be served at 6:30 pm, a silent, live, and dessert auction will also take place. Dinner will include: spaghetti, fettuccini, a hearty meat sauce, Alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, broccoli, garden salad, and garlic bread. Some items that will be auctioned off include: wine baskets, a chocolate basket, and coffee basket, to name a few. Starlene Enfield, Steilacoom High School Grad Party Chair 2013, explained: “Our goal is to have three silent auction tables that close at different times. We have asked 21 businesses to donate for the dessert and live auction.
Some live auction items include: Angie D’s Photography in Tacoma will be offering $640-$675 of her photography service, Josten’s will be offering a $259 value for graduates to use towards: a cap, gown, tassel, name card, class ring, and other items associated to graduation, and a family is offering a week at the Hood Canal in their cabin.”
Tickets are $30 a person and will be sold until Wednesday, October 31, 2012. This is an adult’s only event (age 21 and older as wine will be available for purchase for $3 a glass. There are no discounts on ticket prices for seniors, military, etc.) Those that are interested in attending need to call: 253 297-3016 or contact Carole Tinsley at: 253 584-5131 or show up at Chambers Bay Realty located at 1603 Lafayette Street Steilacoom, WA 98388.
Starlene explained details of the event, “This is my first time doing this. It’s normally the class senior parents that puts the auction on to cover the costs for the graduation party for seniors. Originally, S.H.E.F. (Steilacoom Historical Education Foundation) auction hosted the arts and activities auction years ago, which went to scholarships for Steilacoom high school and grants to enhance teaching and learning in the district, however, the senior high school students’ parents took it over.”
Starlene commented on the event, “This is a neat event for the: community, schools, and parents to support their seniors to have a safe and fun graduation party. All the money the principal raises goes to any kids at Steilacoom high school to pay for: application fees for college, paying for a tux to go to prom, athletic costs, and helps kids out that need it.” She feels the best thing about the event, “The community getting together to support its students.”
When asked what many people may not know about the event, Starlene replied, “They may not realize what it costs to throw a safe and fun party for the students. Due to the expense, this is one of the ways for kids that want to go, can go to the party.”
Starlene mentioned how this event was unique compared to others, “For this particular event, it’s just dedicated to high school seniors of that year to offset the cost. It’s the only event in Steilacoom for Steilacoom students.”
