Living Word Lutheran Church, located at 14422 Meridian Ave E Puyallup, WA, is having its last Womens Ministry meeting on Saturday, May 4, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. The Womens Ministry meets October through May. This last program until October, will be held at the Sunrise Baptist Church, located at 12115 Shaw Rd E Puyallup, WA. Linda Deas, co-chair womens ministry at Living Word Lutheran Church, informed us of the program on May 4th. “We will have three ladies from our church to talk to us about their “Care Committee” (if someone’s sick, food is provided, etc.), and we’re having people bring baby pictures, and an easel board set up so people can name who is the baby.”
When the Womens Ministry is meeting, it meets on the first Saturday of the month from 9 am to 10:30 am. However, some occasions the meetings can run until 11 am to 12:30 pm, due to special programs at the church.
Linda informed us that there is normally a sign-up sheet to RSVP, to account for how many women will be coming, so that the amount of food for the meeting can be accurate. Women of all ages are in the ministry. Normally, a meeting will begin with a welcome, an open prayer, devotion, breakfast, and then announcements about the church. “We had a baby shower for our youth director this past April. All of the women brought a gift for the baby, we played games, and a of couple kids in the youth program read a few programs to the youth director,” Linda explained.
Linda discussed more about what takes place at the Womens Ministry meetings, “We’ve had Christian speakers from all different places. Last October we had a program presented called “Golden Oldies” which happens at breakfast, then our program took place, which was a fashion show presented by the Goodwill Store. They provided entertainment by dressing up from different time periods: 1920, 1930, etc. They had music entertainment, and a speaker. It was a fun program.
During Christmas, we had four men from our church sing Christmas carols, a group sing-a-long, and followed by a special luncheon. In February, we invited the Mens Ministry to be our guest at the luncheon, since they do so much for our church. The Mens Ministry built the altar, baptismal, crosses, and take care of various other fixtures. They load many items back and forth for us and we wanted to give them a thank you luncheon for all that they do.”
Linda commented regarding the Womens Ministry, “I think we have a wonderful womens ministry that is not just the church, but outreach programs for the community. We started out as a fellowship, and it’s a good way to get to know people.”
According to Linda, the ministry has been active for three years since October, when the Living Word Lutheran Church re-established from Pilgrim Lutheran to what it is now, Living Word Lutheran Church.
When asked who she recommended attend the Womens Ministry, Linda replied, “The womens ministry is basically members of our congregation. We’re always looking for more people to come to our church. They can automatically be in the womens ministry and when we have special events, for example, a fashion show, they bring family members and daughters. Anybody who’s interested, certainly are welcome. We’re trying to grow, of course. Our ministry has a nice turn out and nice people. We’d love to have anybody come and see what we’re all about.”
Note: Please contact Lydia in advance prior to just showing up at a Womens Ministry meeting.
